Meet our Principal
We are excited to announce that Cody Marshall will be joining the Fruitvale Elementary community as our new principal!
Cody is a dynamic and visionary educator who brings a deep commitment to equity, innovation, and student-centered leadership. Most recently, he served as the Principal of Lodestar K-5 in Sobrante Park, where he was instrumental in stabilizing school culture, supporting staff retention, and raising the bar for student achievement. His leadership focused on building strong relationships, driving instructional excellence, and creating a school environment where every student could thrive.
Cody’s path to educational leadership is grounded in both personal resilience and a profound belief in the power of schools to transform lives. Originally from the West Coast, Cody has lived in Las Vegas, San Diego, and Baja California, Mexico. His own experiences as a student navigating poverty and housing instability shaped his drive to become a first-generation college graduate and an advocate for students who are often overlooked.
Cody earned his B.A. in Sociology and Education Studies from UC San Diego in 2013 and his M.A. in Education from Loyola Marymount University in 2016. He began his teaching career in Oakland at Allendale Elementary and later served with the KIPP network before stepping into school leadership. At every stage of his journey, Cody has worked tirelessly to create inclusive, empowering, and high-performing learning environments.
As he steps into the role of principal at Fruitvale, Cody is excited to build strong partnerships with staff, students, and families. He is committed to ensuring that every member of the community feels seen, valued, and supported—and to co-creating a bold vision for Fruitvale’s future that reflects the brilliance of its students and the deep legacy of the school.
Please join us in giving a warm Fruitvale welcome to Principal Cody Marshall!
